Why can’t I hear any sound?

Published on Wednesday, January 24, 2007

Check you have a soundcard installed and that your speakers are plugged in, switched on and working correctly. If all of this is correct, click Start > Control Panel, select System and Maintenance and click Device Manager. Look for a yellow question mark next to your soundcard, right-click it and choose Properties, then investigate further from the General tab.

I dual boot my pc between xp and vista, My sound card on my motherboard uses different outputs for audio. I have to switch my speaker cable between these ports, depending which operating system I have booted. I have an Intel D845PEBT2 Board.

Go to Start --> Run, and type in services.msc.

A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio. Right-click
and click on Properties.

Make sure that "Startup type" is set to automatic. Also, make sure, under "Service
status," start is selected
