Windows Vista "the most secure operating system in history"

That’s the word of the man at the fore front of the war on online crime
By James Stables on 17 September 2007

Online crime has become a real problem in today’s world, and security has become one of the most important issues when making software.

Recent surveys have shown the frequency of online attacks such as identity theft and fraud are so common, that online fraud will soon overtake drug crime as the world’s biggest nuisance.

Research has shown that almost 50% of PCs are part of some kind of botnet, whether dormant or active, and 1 in 10 web sites harbour malicious code. Over 15 million Americans have had their identities stolen, and this figure only represents reported crime.

David Perry is Trend Micro’s Public Education Director, and has held senior positions at Symantec, McAfee, Cybermedia, Apple, Microsoft and IBM. He says anyone wanting to stay safe online should invest in Windows Vista, calling it “the safest operating system, except pen and paper.”

Dismissing claims about the security of Mac OS X and Linux systems, he praised Windows Vista as a system designed to help security companies implement good defenses.

Windows Security Center

Windows Security Center means safer surfing

“It’s a very good thing for people to be using Windows Vista. It protects users from over 80% of threats, and is the best thing other than using a pen and paper.

“Internet Explorer 7 is a big plus as well, and is a massive step in the right direction.”

David also cited the huge boom in the number of cyber criminals out there making malicious code:

“You can buy kits now which guide you through making malicious codes, and they even have technical support and service pack upgrades!”

“Back in 1991 we were dealing with 3 – 5 new viruses a month, now we’re looking at 15,000 new bits of code per day.”

This is ridiculous. Windows has been below the security power curve for YEARS. Although they deserve credit for moving in the right direction, they'll always be playing catch-up to *nix-based systems.

Yes, Vista is secure ! Windows is attacked more often, as it is worlds prefered OS. It hence gives the impression of being less secure !!! Malware writers WANT to write for Windows ! Who would want to attack an OS used by just 2-3% or 7-8 % !?!?

I agree with you there. With people saying vita is unsecure with loads of viruses. If most the users had macs or linux then the writers would start a virus for them and attack them.
